Ecological Education

The kitchen is an ideal place to nurture environmental awareness. Children do more than play while cooking: they learn and practise sustainable cooking. These everyday practices inspire lasting habits in how they choose, buy, prepare and consume food. Children learn these essential principles for food and the environment:

  • We buy produce when it is in season
  • We buy only the quantity we need, when we need it
  • We choose trusted quality over unfamiliar products of uncertain quality
  • We favour local produce
  • We choose recyclable packaging
  • We use environmentally friendly or recyclable shopping bags
  • We respect ingredients and make good use of them
  • We cook sustainably, using the right amounts of ingredients, water and heat
  • We keep lids properly closed during cooking to avoid wasting energy
  • We grow small kitchen gardens, adding greenery and fragrance to our balconies and gardens
  • We recycle regularly

Can you imagine a young gardener growing rocket and basil on your balcony?

Or a little compost-maker turning potato peelings and other scraps you usually throw away into natural fertiliser for your plants?

Would you welcome the idea of your children no longer asking for unnecessary purchases at the supermarket?

At Kids Cooking Club, we care today about the contribution your children will make tomorrow to protecting ecosystems, the balance of our planet and their own wellbeing.
